What is Applied Electronics & Instrumentation engineering?

The field of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering is growing at a very fast pace. Over the past three decades the field of instrumentation has seen an extremely widespread application in almost all discipline of engineering e.g., Mining & Metallurgy, Robotics, Textile, Rolling Mills, Cranes & Hoists, Arc Furnaces, Chemical Engineering, Process Control, and Static Relays etc. Today, the application of Microprocessor / Microcontroller and Digital Signal Processor (DSP) Chip has revolutionized the field of Electrical and Electronic Instrumentation. These Microcontroller / DSP chips have virtually become the heart of modern instrumentation design. Although, the new technology has resulted in more versatile, compact, accurate and faster response time, as compared to the conventional design, the new systems are replacing the old rather slowly due to reliable performance of the old systems.

Applied Electronics & Instrumentation engineering at JIS Group educational initiatives

B.Tech programme in Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is offered at JIS college of Engineering, Kalyani and Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Panihati, Sodepur. The curriculum followed is as designed by the West Bengal University of Technology. While the course curriculum taught in theory classes makes the conceptual foundation, the training/project done at industry augments it further and gives an in-depth knowledge of the current as well as old industrial practices. In addition to the above seminars and invited lectures by renowned industrialist make the learning process more interesting as well as effective.

Career Opportunities

Students completing the undergraduate curriculum in Applied Electronics gets trained the engineers to meet the challenging needs of the Industries. Courses like Integrated Circuit Technology, System Design using IC's orient engineers to undergo rigorous training in complex design and fabrication problems. Computer Hardware and Software course are structured to meet the ever-growing needs of IT Industry. A course on Digital Signal Processing prepares engineers to cope with the requirements of Industries specializing in High-end Communication systems. After completion, students find employment in IT industry, Defense laboratories, Electronic Design, Research and Academic etc.

Why Applied Electronics & Instrumentation?

Electronics is a basic discipline providing materials, devices and systems for a number of fields including computers and information, communication and transportation, manufacturing and construction, medical and biological engineering, as well as health and welfare engineering, and will continue to increase its importance as the source of advanced technologies in the 21st century.

Nowadays Instrumentation & other fields are becoming increasingly interdisciplinary in nature where Instrumentation provides the monitoring and controlling hands for the process Automation. Instrumentation is nothing but the eyes and ears of the process through which Instrumentation Engineers know the condition of plants. With Instrumentation scheme control system design implies identification of control objectives; selection of appropriate measurements and manipulations, as well as determination of loops connecting these and identification of proper control laws. Also the advent and rapid growth of digital computers has revolutionized the practice of process control and allowed the industrial implementation of the advanced control concepts.
