Q What is a "college"?

A A college is a community of students, professors and college Fellows, administrative support staff and facilities. Physically, it's made up of a residence for students and academic building(s) where classes are held, but a college is so much more than just a building.

All full-time undergraduates & postgraduates become members of one of the six colleges at JIS GROUP, whether you live on campus or not.

At JIS Group of Colleges, we believe that the college system provides a way to build the closest possible relationship between professors and students within the context of a large multi-faculty university. In other words, the college system keeps you in touch with real people who can answer your academic and non-academic questions, help you when you're confused or worried any time of day or night, lend a hand cutting through the "red tape" or celebrate with you when you graduate.

Need help with planning an essay - ask your Academic Advisor. Into team sport? Join your college-mates in inter-college competition and you could win the momento. Looking for a quiet place to study? Check out your college common room. More in the mood to party? Head for your college canteen!

The more you get involved, the more important your college will become to your life - at JIS Group of colleges and in the future.

Detailed information about JIS Group of colleges.

Q When will I find out what college I belong to?
A All students will learn their University affiliation at their enrolment appointment.
Residence students, regardless of which courses they have, are encouraged to participate in the events that are taking place in the college where they live. If you're not living on campus, your college affiliation is based on your major.

Q How does being affiliated with a college benefit me?
A Your college affiliation is important. Colleges provide you with all sorts of advantages and opportunities, academic and non-academic, which would not otherwise be available in a JIS Group of Colleges. Each college has a Director, Principal, Registrar and Hostel Superintendent to support your personal and academic growth.

Your college will become your home away from home whether you live in residence or not. Through your college, you'll meet people from all across India and around the world. College authority organize major social and cultural events and smaller parties, athletic events, recreational events and group outings and a host of other activities which will provide you with opportunities to make friendships that will last a lifetime.

College facilities may include: a college news letter, Sport and Recreation Council, Alumni Association, common rooms, canteen, coffee shops, study areas, gymnasium , computer rooms, seminar and small lecture rooms, recreational rooms and more!

Q How will I get to know other people in my college?
A Orientation Week is your introduction to all that is college affiliated. Make sure you come out and attend as many events - both academic and non-academic - as you can!

College affiliation does not stop after Orientation Week, however, each College Council holds events throughout the year.

Q Do I have to attend Orientation events at my college of residence or can I attend events hosted by the other colleges?
A You are encouraged to participate in the Orientation activities of your college of affiliation.
